Suzuki brings ABS to mid-sized motorcycles

Anti-lock braking systems (ABS) can be handy while riding on slick roads. While more expensive motorcycles are equipped with ABS, KABC in Los Angeles reports that Suzuki now offers the ABS on mid-priced bikes.

One example is the Suzuki SV650 ABS. According to Suzuki...

You know what you're looking for in a standard V-twin machine: light and agile handling, along with willing-and-able engine performance. And that's what the Suzuki SV650 delivers ? in spades. The Suzuki SV650 offers its own unique styling and performance. Compared to the SV650S, it has a leaner profile, featuring a single round headlight, tubular handlebars and a more upright riding position.

One ride on the SV650 and you'll be hooked. It combines crisp, lightweight handling with all-day riding comfort. And the thrills really begin when you tap into its exceptional engine performance. Its fuel-injected V-twin powerplant offers crisp throttle response, strong torque and a stunningly wide powerband.

Ridley motorcycles introduces new models and increases sales

The site for Ridley Motorcycles features details on new line of bikes for 2008.

According to Ridley Motorcycles...

The new '0eight line includes eight distinct models to meet the varying tastes of its broad customer base. For the new year, Ridley has added models to improve its product price range from an entry model price of $13,995 to a new three wheel model that has a base price of $25,995. In all, eight models will be offered by Ridley in 2008 which have already begun shipping to its dealer network of over sixty locations.

"Our focus is on delivering a motorcycle that fits the needs of the new market. It seems that so many companies are trying to revamp their line by adding a sixth gear. We're taking the gears completely out of the equation and letting riders get back to actually riding", said Clay Ridley about the effort his company has directed towards their new product line. Several new unique features are creating interest among Ridley Riders on the company's riders forum, one of which is a parking brake. "We take comments from the owners of our motorcycles very, very seriously. Ridley Riders have asked for a parking brake for added security", commented Jay Ridley, Vice President for the company.

Added to the long list of improvements for the new year model is the new "2 Year Plus" factory warranty which offers twenty-five months of factory backed warranty. According to Ridley, this new warranty exceeds coverage provided by most other domestic manufacturer's. One more reason Ridley believes 2008 will be the company's best selling year model.

With the holiday season fast approaching, Ridley Motorcycle felt the introduction of the new models would have more impact if held back until the middle of November. For Ridley, the holiday season means big business. Several of Ridley's dealers have reported higher sales in December than in May. The company attributed this to their market which is nearly divided in half among men and women.

Women riders are a growing segment of the motorcycle community. Appealing to women riders seems to have helped boost Ridley's sales significantly.

Ridley Motorcycle Company announced major gains at their Houston area dealerships over last year, bucking reports of an industry slowdown. The company further announced American Dream Cycles in Houston and Xtreme Custom Choppers in Bacliff are leading the country in sales of new Ridley Motorcycles. The sales of Ridley Automatic motorcycles in the Houston market is up 140 percent over last year.

“I believe the overall industry may be down because rider demographics are changing but for the most part, the product is not,” said Bob Kay, director of sales at Ridley Motorcycle Company. “Ridley motorcycles are different because they appeal to these new demographics such as first time riders and women, as well as experienced riders who are getting back into motorcycling.”

According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, the number of female motorcycle riders has increased 36 percent since 1998. As the female demographic increases, many motorcycle companies are looking for ways to capture a significant market share.

“Some companies are trying to court new and female riders through ‘shop parties’ but the bikes they demonstrate are too heavy and complicated to ride,” said Clay Ridley, president and founder of Ridley Motorcycle Company. “We’re seeing a lot of customers learn about our motorcycles at these parties and come purchase a Ridley because it actually fits the rider. These customers are looking for a motorcycle with a low seat height, light weight and a low center of gravity. This exactly describes any Ridley Motorcycle.”

Ducati 1098 wins Best Bike of the Year award

Ducati.com features details on the Ducati 1098 winning the "Best Bike of the Year" award from the Supertest World Association.

According to Ducati...

This year, the SWA (Supertest World Association), the organization that groups together 10 of the world’s most important motorcycle publications, has awarded the “Best Bike of the Year” title to the Ducati 1098, undisputed king in the “Sportbike” category.

MO (Germany), MOTO 73 (Netherlands), Moto Revue (France), Solo Moto (Spain), 0-300 (Greece), Due Ruote (Italy), Moto! (Brazil), Moto Journal (Portugal), Moto Sport Schweiz (Switzerland) and TWO (UK) gave the top award in the “Bike of the Year” category to the 1098 with 18 points.

Second place went to the Triumph Speed Triple with 17. In addition the Ducati Hypermotard finished equal on 4 points with the Suzuki 1300 B-King, the KTM 690, the Yamaha YZF 1000 R1 and the Honda Hornet 600.

This prestigious title follows numerous awards that Ducati’s latest Superbike machine has already picked up in 2007 since it was first presented at the Milan Show one year ago, where it met enormous success, from the media and public alike, immediately scooping the “Best of Show” award and registering positive sales both in Italy and abroad. Other important recognitions have included “Best Design” and “Best Sportbike”, awarded by the Motorcycle Design Association, and the “Bike of the Year 2007” award given by readers of the magazines In Moto and Motorrad.

Ducati also features cool wallpaper images of their bikes for download. If you are tired of looking at the default background on your computer (fluffy white clouds anyone?) you can spruce up your desktop with a high performance bike.
